Recalculate a pattern for your gauge

The pattern says one gauge, your swatch says another. Enter both and the pattern’s counts — knit your own numbers.

The pattern says

Stitches per cm
Rows per cm
Stitches in the piece
Rows in the piece

Your swatch says

Stitches per cm
Rows per cm

Knit instead

—stitches
—rows

Enter the pattern’s gauge and counts — your numbers appear here.

Before you trust the numbers

  • Swatch with the yarn and needles (or the machine tension) you will use.
  • Wash and block the swatch first — yarn changes after washing.
  • Round to an even number where the piece is symmetrical.
  • Ease is the pattern’s, not yours — recalculation keeps it.

Which side do I need?

  • Recalculate a pattern — you have a pattern and your gauge is different.
  • How many stitches to cast on — you have a width and no pattern: hats, cowls, scarves, any straight piece.

Tired of counting by hand? A Knitticate pattern does all of this for you, from your own measurements.
